Description

Like that, Leo1 just hides behind Regulus. Leo1 about a degree away from bright Regulus does not make highlighting the faint diffuse galaxy any easier. This image was supposed to be my first RGB with the ASI 183MM, but I just can't get it right. Maybe it's Regulus that outshines everything and the many street lamps that have produced a lot of gradients for me. At some point I gave up. My next RGB project that I hope will be the UFO Galaxy. Keep your fingers crossed.

The star Regulus , the heart of the Lion, and Leo I a dwarf galaxy are within one degree of each other. Close in the sky but Regulus is located about 75 light years away and Leo 1 is located more than 10,000 times further at about 800,000 light years away.
Leo I is a dwarf spheroidal galaxy and thought to be one of the most distant of the Local Group of galaxies. The local group is dominated by our Milky Way Galaxy and M31.
